Coal Express 4 is the fourth game in the Coal Express series of train games. Coal Express 4 features improved graphics, forty achievements, and is the first game of the series to contain an upgrade shop. Continuing the gameplay style of the third Coal Express, Coal Express 4 focuses only on driving the train and does not contain the cargo loading aspect of Coal Express 1 or Coal Express 2.

The goal of Coal Express 4 is to haul cargo from the beginning of each level to the end as quickly as possible. Each level has a quota of cargo that must be transported intact to the station at the end of the level. If too many items fall off of the train or if you crash, you will fail the level and have to start over. You are given an unlimited number of tries to complete each level. Your progress is automatically saved, so any items that you buy or levels that you unlock will be waiting for you the next time that you load up this train game.

Coal Express 4 uses the same keyboard control scheme as its immediate predecessor, Coal Express 3. The up and down arrow keys are used to move forward and backward. The left and right arrow keys balance your train left and right respectively. These commands are useful for keeping your wheels flat on the track to avoid crashing. Finally, holding the spacebar activate your booster (assuming that the bar in the lower-left corner of the screen is not depleted). It is good to use the boost to gain extra power when going up hills, but try not to overuse it or you may end up crashing!

Although you are on the clock in this train game, you are given unlimited time to complete each level. For this reason, it is best to take things slow to save as much cargo as possible and avid crashing. Completing levels quickly earns more points, but you can earn even more points by not allowing any cargo to fall off of your train.

Coal Express 4 is a superb installment of the Coal Express series of train games. If you are a fan of the series and do not mind the lack of the cargo loading element found in the first two games of the series, then you will surely enjoy Coal Express 4!
